Why Performance Lab® Energy Targets Cells’ Mitochondria
Many so-called “energy pills” resort to stimulants that target the endocrine system, providing a short-term energy burst followed by a rapid crash and long-range adrenal exhaustion.
  • Performance Lab® Energy instead targets the original source of natural energy for all body functions – the powerhouse of the cell known as the Mitochondria.
Mitochondria are organelles within cells that take in nutrients from foods, break them down, and produce charged-up ATP molecules that power all metabolic processes. Mitochondria are most highly concentrated in high-energy tissues and organs, such as the muscles, brain and heart.
The concern: Over time, mitochondria are damaged by free radicals – causing them to malfunction and decline in number. This mitochondrial decline has been linked to fatigue, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and other health issues.
Performance Lab® Energy’s innovative design helps to protect, restore, multiply and optimize mitochondria for efficient function – supporting peak energy production in nearly every cell in the body.
With this approach, Performance Lab® Energy promotes revitalizing, crash-free energy in body and mind while also building long-range healthy vitality – making it a superior choice to the unhealthy spike-and-crash cycle of stimulant-based energy products.
Coenzyme Q10 (MicroActive® Q10), 100 mg
CoQ10 is a vitamin-like compound required for bioenergetics: The flow and transformation of energy within all life forms. CoQ10 is present in all cells and all body tissues, but due to its energizing properties, it is most concentrated in organs with high energy demands – especially the brain and heart.
Eighty percent of the body’s CoQ10 is found within the inner membrane of cells’ mitochondria. Here, CoQ10’s energy-promoting functions include:
  1. Sparking ATP energy within mitochondria. CoQ10 is a critical link in the mitochondria electron transport chain. As it shuttles electrons and ushers protons across mitochondrial membranes, CoQ10 helps convert energy in foods into the ATP energy that powers all biological life.
  2. Supplying mitochondria-targeted antioxidant activity. After sparking ATP energy, CoQ10 converts into its reduced form, ubiquinol: A potent fat-soluble antioxidant that protects mitochondria from damaging free radicals created during ATP energy generation.
  3. Stimulating mitochondrial biogenesis. CoQ10 has been shown to trigger the formation of fresh new mitochondria in response to oxidative stress.
Coenzyme Q10
Without the presence of CoQ10, ATP energy cannot be generated or sustained. The problem: CoQ10 levels are depleted by aging, exercise, environmental stressors and statin drugs.
Supplemental CoQ10 may help to restore optimal cell bioenergetics by improving mitochondrial membrane potential, reducing oxidative stress and increasing ATP synthesis.
Performance Lab® Energy’s MicroActive® Q10 is easier to absorb than standard CoQ10 forms
MicroActive® Q10 Absorption
About MicroActive® Q10:
Plain CoQ10 is difficult to absorb. MicroActive® Q10 is a free-flowing powder form with enhanced bioavailability and a slow 24-hour release for consistent cell energy support. Research shows MicroActive® Q10 supplementation doubles CoQ10 blood levels in just 3 weeks.
Laboratory assays have shown increases in cell mitochondria activity after exposure to PQQ:
PQQ (BioPQQ®), 10 mg
Pyrroloquinoline Quinone (PQQ) is a unique antioxidant biofactor related to B-vitamins that serves as a cofactor for enzymatic reactions that enable cell health and development.
PQQ is strongly associated with healthy mitochondrial function, complementing CoQ10’s dynamic mitochondrial support by:
  1. Stimulating mitochondrial biogenesis. PQQ works in concert with CoQ10, but via a unique mode of action, influencing genetic pathways involved in regulating mitochondria activity;
  2. Countering mitochondrial oxidative stress. PQQ is believed to have 5,000X the antioxidant redox capacity of vitamin C, providing robust protection of mitochondria against oxidative stress
In addition to the above research suggesting PQQ may help multiply mitochondria, animal research has shown that PQQ-deficient mice appear to have a 30-40% reduction in the total number of mitochondria per cell when compared to mice with sufficient PQQ levels.
PQQ’s unique support appears to help stabilize mitochondrial membranes, stimulate mitochondrial biogenesis, and optimize mitochondria to perform more efficiently – bioactivities that may enhance cell energy production throughout the body.
About BioPQQ®
BioPQQ® is a premium, water-soluble form of Pyrroloquinoline quinone. It is the most widely researched and evidence-backed PQQ form available on the market today.
About BioPQQ®
Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR), 750 mg
Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR) is an amino acid that is a required cofactor for cell energy production, and is especially critical for muscle energy metabolism and function. Approximately 95% of the body’s carnitine stores are located within muscle; Acetyl-L-Carnitine helps regulate fuel metabolism within muscle tissues. Long-chain fatty acids cannot cross mitochondrial membranes without ALCAR.
Settling in the outer membrane of cells’ mitochondria powerhouses, ALCAR supports fatty acid metabolism by:
  1. Donating acetyl groups that are used to form Acetyl CoA: The long-chain fatty acids that serve as mitochondrial fuel;
  2. Transporting long-chain fatty acids across inner cell membranes into the powerhouse mitochondria, where they are oxidized to produce ATP energy;
  3. Returning to outer mitochondrial membranes to be “recycled” and transport fuel again
In addition to its energy metabolism benefits, ALCAR promotes mitochondrial health by:
  1. Transporting excess waste materials and toxins out of the mitochondria, toxins have been shown to interfere with cell energy production and efficiency;
  2. Helping to strengthen and protect mitochondrial membranes, in part by reducing formation of cell-damaging free radicals
ALCAR also has a glycogen-sparing effect:
During exercise, it helps preserve energy stored in muscle while encouraging the use of energy stored in fat. ALCAR’s energy utilization support has been suggested to increase duration of physical performance during intense exercise:
ALCAR Supplementation
ALCAR’s dual-powered support for energized training and fat metabolism combine to optimize body composition, including programs for both muscle definition and healthy weight management.
ALCAR Potency
About Performance Lab® Energy Acetyl-L-Carnitine:
Standard L-Carnitine supplements are limited: They are only 14%-18% bioavailable, only cross into cells during insulin spikes, and are incapable of crossing the blood-brain barrier.
The enhanced-potency ALCAR found in Performance Lab® Energy has greater bioavailability, is absorbed into cells without glucose and can cross the blood-brain barrier – offering distinct advantages for weight control and mental energy applications.
R-Lipoic Acid (as microencapsulated Bio-Enhanced® stabilized Na-RALA sodium R-lipoate), 150 mg
R-Lipoic Acid is a cofactor that is naturally found in mitochondria, where it activates enzymes that are essential for bioenergetics processes and carbohydrate metabolism. Performance Lab® Energy’s R-Lipoic Acid helps with overall vitality by:
  1. Functioning as a precursor for the Acetyl CoA, supporting its formation in a separate pathway from ALCAR;
  2. Enhancing insulin-stimulated glucose transport and metabolism for efficient cell performance
R-Lipoic Acid is also a Universal Antioxidant: Soluble in both water and fat, it can help counter oxidative stress in all parts of the body and all parts of our cells. R-Lipoic Acid’s extended mitochondria-oriented antioxidant activity includes:
  1. Enhancing mitochondrial expression of protective antioxidant enzymes, including glutathione, suggested to reverse age-related mitochondrial enzyme decline;
  2. Directly recycling and extending activity of mitochondria-protective antioxidants including CoQ10 and vitamin C
R-Lipoic Acid
About Bio-Enhanced® Na-RALA:
Many supplements use unstabilized R-Lipoic acid, which may have poor bioavailability, indigestion side effects and residual solvents. Bio-Enhanced® Na-RALA is processed to remove impurities and stabilized into a salt form that matches the molecular structure of naturally synthesized Na-RALA – quality steps that help eliminate gastric side effects and improve bioavailability.
ALCAR + ALA Synergy:
When taken together, ALCAR and ALA provide more efficient support of mitochondria synthesis and energy metabolism than when taken alone. ALCAR+ALA have also been studied in combination for their ability to protect proteins and cell mitochondria from free radical damage.
